The dog in the picture is obviously not really screaming but what we do and how we feel can sometimes have an effect on our pets as well. In fact, our pets can react the same way we do.
Dogs can be very obvious when reacting to your emotions, and don’t think cats are any different. A cat knows when there’s a change in your mood too!
Some pets may be loving all the attention they’re getting while the family is home, but others…..maybe not so much.
For some pets dealing with the anxiety or frustrations from their owner is very difficult and hard to understand. Pets can feel your stress and respond to your actions. Try to stick with your daily routine as best you can.
Of course, during these times of not being able to find toilet paper or having waited in line for hours only to see empty shelves can leave you in tears. But try to find ways to remain calm, and remove yourself from the situation. Then have a plan and revisit the situation when ready.
Reach out to local stores, shelters, or neighbors for advice. Help is always a call away. Stress can be very unhealthy, what may start out as stress can turn into other problems. Stress can cause loss of appetite and illness, for both you AND your pet. So stay calm, we will get through this! And owning a pet you’re definitely on the right track with good health already. Pets are one of the best stress relievers. But know they’re watching you, ready to provide you that much needed comfort.
I had an experience myself at the beginning of this crisis while gathering groceries and stocking supplies. My own dog had become anxious, following close by my side. He saw this as packing for a road trip, and he wanted to make sure that he wasn’t going be left behind. He’s a dog that really looks forward to road trips. Seeing him react this way was enough to make me stop, take a break, and slow down. As I took the time to calm him, I realized how anxious he had become due to my actions.
So relax, be safe, find comfort in each other, and your pets. We will all get through this together. 💪❤🐾
